bonjour, non?

long time no write...

i'm currently sitting at my desk. pondering how to make money grow on trees. i once thought of my self as a frugile, "water with lemon please", paint my nails at home kind of girl.

yet i keep wondering, why is my bank account at a stand still? and then i realize i was allll wrong. who am i kidding? i'm the queen of "i need this water bottle. it's so cute and it's only $7", "it's been a rough week, i deserve this $60 lucca shirt", "victoria secret undies 7 for $25, i can't pass that up!" girl.

i'm working on ideas to fix this problem i have. eat out only once a week? oooh...not sure if that's doable. that's my social life.

drop my YMCA membership? yeah right. i practically live there.

shop less?...no comment.

little by little. i'll figure it out.

in the mean time. i'm on the hunt for a cheap waffle iron.

Ich Liebe Dich Herman

Guten Tag!

I'm currently reading the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.

It was originally written in German and was published in the 1920's. I can easily spot the German-to-English translation throughout it, but I really like Hesse's style. It's almost a little repetetive, but an enjoyable, non-annoying repetitive.

Daniel gave this book to me last weekend, probably with more than one intention- he told me he bought it for his conservative grandmother as well...haha. I'm only half way through it so far, but its basically about a man who is looking for absolute content in his life. First, he is born as a Brahmin and follows Atman and the gods, but with his discontent he becomes a shramana and attempts to rid his body of all the senses- feeling no pain or pleasure, thirst or hunger; and then he follows Guatama (aka Buddha) to find absolute peace and truth in his teachings, but to no avail. I am now at the part in the book where he is in love with Kamala (a beautiful money loving woman) and working making a very rich living. But as everyone should already know, happiness does not lie within riches and physical attraction- I have a feeling Siddhartha will soon find this out as well.

I'll keep you posted on what happens next...or maybe you should read it yourself? I don't want to spoil the ending... and it really is a good read.

Anyways, this is probably the best book I could be reading right now. I'm sure Daniel had that in mind.

The only German I know is from of one of my German friends, Lydia, back in high school. "Ich Liebe Dich". It means "I love you".

And right now I will admit, I do love me some Herman Hesse.

the first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.

i like it.

i just finished reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.

my awesome grateful dead loving garden growing aunt recommended it to me.

she is way cooler than i am.

hunter s. thompson is nuts. and towards the end i couldn't put that book down to save my life. he really wraps you up into his drug infested whirlwind stories.
now i need to see the movie.

"My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nights — or very early mornings — when I left the Fillmore half-crazy and, instead of going home, aimed the big 650 Lightning across the Bay Bridge at a hundred miles an hour wearing L. L. Bean shorts and a Butte sheepherder's jacket . . . booming through the Treasure Island tunnel at the lights of Oakland and Berkeley and Richmond, not quite sure which turn-off to take when I got to the other end (always stalling at the toll-gate, too twisted to find neutral while I fumbled for change) . . . but being absolutely certain that no matter which way I went I would come to a place where people were just as high and wild as I was: No doubt at all about that. . . .

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . .

And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . ." - Hunter S. Thompson

how could you be so heartless...

last thursday i had the opportunity of seeing the Heartless Bastards at Speakeasy. i knew they would be great live. they have so much energy! AND their set lasted 2 hours!! a guy i went to high school with (that i shall leave un-named) was standing directly in front of me near the stage the whole time, rocking out, long nappy hair whipping in my face. most people might get annoyed with such things; i just laughed everytime that black mass slid across my cheeks. maybe i could blame my recent unexplainable breakout on him?

anywho, the show was great. we were in great company. daniel's mom even came out! i got to meet Brandee Howard-O'Brien, The SPY's sales manager. And Sherry Chamberlain, a local artist. all very cool ladies.

all in all, a great night. here's a vid i found from the other night.

its about time.

if you have read my previous post about my love for female musicians, then you will understand my excitement of the fact that i got to see Camera Obscura last night at OU's meachum auditorium.
they are scottish. they are old...ish. and tracyanne (the lead singer) 's voice is SPOT ON. i loved them already, but now i love them even MORE.

check out the song up there. its one of their slower ones, but it is also one of my favs. "James."

  • Wierdest/ Most Entertaining Show: F'ed Up. Lead Singer = shirt off, belly hanging out, hanging from the rafters. awesome.
  • Most Energetic: Andrew WK. he wears ALL white ALL the time. and he has hair like dumbledorf.
  • Cutest: She & Him. duh.
  • Biggest Surprise: Jakob Dylan and Neko Case playing together. i wish neko sang more. but i still loved it. and her crazy red hair. and jakob sounds just like his dad.
  • Honorable Mentions: Raphael Sadiqq, Neon Indian, Pains of Being Pure at Heart
In other words. i loved it.
